Income
Investment income or earnings refers to
any increase or decrease resulting from interest, dividends or changes in the value of the underlying
asset. This is often referred to as taking a Total Return
Approach to investment management which is that used by most university
endowment and charitable funds.
This is a better balanced and more
comprehensive view of portfolio management and allows one to
potentially increase income (total return) and reduce risk as compared
with an approach that focuses on interest and dividends only.
